Too true Charlize.

Sometimes a girl needs a break from a computer screen, and desires solely her own company, a river-front seat, sunshine and a good book. It doesn’t hurt if she’s got a fabulous skirt on either.
A little lunch and a little self-education went hand in hand the other day, as I basked in the sun reading the Heath brother’s case for sticky ideas. Proverbs, urban legends, universal sayings - what make these seemingly innocuous stories/ideas lodge in our brains? It’s much like a first introduction: firm handshake, eye contact, repeat the name, remember the basics about a person and something outstanding about them, and they’re locked in your head forever.
Who are the people and stories you’ll never forget, even if you’ve only met for 5 minutes? How memorable are you?

Donna Summer - #QueenofDisco - you were SUCH a boss lady. Amazing voice, killer moves and a ridiculous number of hits that will withstand the test of time. You will be missed. Can’t believe we lost Whitney and Donna in the same year.

Monday night I raced home to change before heading downtown to Sub 51 for the 2nd Annual Taste Around Town #TasteCHI launch party thanks to Bottlenotes.com.
I showed up in my favorite hot pink, vintage linen dress and was delighted when I arrived, with fellow reader in tow, to be asked by the lovely event coordinators if I was This Little Piper. What fun! They tweeted me beforehand and after the event, and put on a lovely launch party.
The wines featured were from the Naked Grape winery: a Pinot Noir, Pinot Grigio, Moscato and a Grenache blend from Maison Camille Cayran. I’m a red girl myself so I liked but was not bowled over by the Pinot Noir (not as bold as others) but was pleasantly surprised by the Pinot Grigio and distracted from the rest by the world’s cutest tiny cheeseburgers. All in all a great event and it even changed my mind about white wine!

Kryolan: World's Best Makeup

One of the perks of my address, is that I live walking distance from what I consider the world’s best makeup: Kryolan. Professional grade, partnerships with and sponsors of the Chicago opera and the World Bodypainting Festival in Austria. Their makeup artists are incredible and not pushy like you’d find in department stores.

As a pale woman with pronounced freckles, it has been nearly impossible for me to find concealer that matches my skin tone. This is because makeup manufacturers think all pale women are pink toned. False. I am yellow toned so a pinky concealer looks disgusting on me.

They manufacture all their own makeup, making it cheaper and better quality than department store/brand name makeup. The products are light so you never feel like you’re wearing anything, even if you’re a usual non-makeup wearer. Plus there’s glitter and incredible false eyelashes EVERYWHERE.

Cary Grant saves Katharine Hepburn from near death on the set of Bringing Up Baby (1938). It’s the “meet-cute” gone wonky with an archaeologist and a socialite, and it’s the movie that made me fall in love with Katharine Hepburn when I was 9 years old: the wit, the laugh, the flippancy, the cockamamie romance and the clothes…oh those clothes.

Absolutely brilliant experiential #marketing from Ford Motor Company. Parisians with abysmal parking skills are reward with a #Ford car equipped with Park Assist technology. The pinball wizard is last in a long line of previous failed attempts and the video showing his amazement at the new technology is priceless.

Great example of how marketing and #advertising can be interactive, engaging and even rewarding for both an end user and the company!

I know it’s old by now, no offense #Coachella 2nd weekenders, and I wasn’t there because this girl is on a budget, but watching #Tupac perform as a hologram gave me the CHILLS. And when Snoop jumps on stage with him, all I could think was “Wow that must be some crazy PTSD going on in his head right now/how awesome that in some way he can be on stage with his friend performing again.”

All told, this is one of the SICKEST sets I’ve heard - would have absolutely lost my mind had I been there and pulled a Piper … dancing with my eyes closed singing “187 on the undacova coppp”.
